"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit..." - Ephesians 5 v 18 {KJV}

The above Bible verse shows us two (2) influences by which a man can live, the first: The influence of alcohol, the second: The influence of the Holy Spirit. I don't know whether you know what it's like to live under the influence of the Holy Spirit, but I trust that you know exactly what it's like to be under the influence of alcohol—whether from your own personal experience of alcohol, or from someone else's display of alcoholic intoxication. You see the guy who is under the influence of alcohol, it shows in his talk, it shows in his walk, it shows in his understanding of matters: at that point, he doesn't see things the way a normal person sees things; he says things that are not rationally incoherent. In other words, he is different! The influence in which he dwells at that very moment gives him his character. Amazing!!

Now I can understand why the Apostle Paul starts this verse by telling us not to be drunk with wine, then he says, "be filled with the Spirit". Paul wants us to understand something, Paul wants us to understand that being filled with the Spirit is to us what being filled with alcohol is to the drunkard! Our talk, our walk, our understanding, our actions will be absolutely affected by the Holy Spirit. This is how God wants us to live in this world! It takes a man who is living under the Holy Spirit's influence to be abused and cheated, yet he takes no revenge! It takes a man who is living under the influence of the Holy Spirit to bless the one who has cursed him! It takes a man who is living under the influence of the Holy Spirit to do good to a man who does not wish him well! You see my friends...God wants us to live UNDER INFLUENCE, the influence of the Holy Spirit. It takes a man who is living under the influence of the Holy Spirit to lay hands on a sick person and rebuke the sickness or demon causing the sickness, when others are thinking of taking the person to the hospital! You see, our talk, our walk, our reasoning, our understanding, our character, our actions, our response can never be like what this world understands, because we are UNDER INFLUENCE, the influence of the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah!
