Recently, the Spirit of God began to teach me that the reason why we are unmerciful to people is because we don't see from their perspectives! They apologise, they plead, they weep, but we are bent on our own ideologies, standards and perspectives, hence, we are unable to show mercy—this is not the way of Christ.

The Lord Jesus taught a very vital lesson in the parable He taught in the book of Matthew:

"Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?" - Matthew 18 vs 33 {KJV}

The above statement depicts that we are to analyse people's wrongs towards us through the lenses of our own failures towards God. This means, we will not be rash in ending relationships; we will not be rash in dissolving our marriages; we will listen truly, and examine the wrong done to us through the lenses of the wrongs we have done to God!

When you offended people, you explained yourself, you wanted to be believed, you wanted them to know exactly how it happened, you wanted them to see that truly it was not intentional—in summary, you wanted mercy! But someone wronged you, but you cannot listen deeply to the person's explanation, you could not patiently ponder on the person's offense through the lenses of your own offense which you've done to God and men, to enable you truly understand the state the person was in that led to that error committed! You couldn't give this! But you so desired it when you offended!! - Think on this.

It's easy for a man to divorce his wife on the ground of adultery which she committed against him! But that same man some years ago was terribly addicted to masturbation and pornography videos, he continually cried to God that he doesn't know what comes upon him that makes him masturbate and watch those porn videos even when he knows it is wrong and sinful to commit such acts. And you know what? God keeps forgiving and healing his hurting heart! But this sane man cannot sit down and carefully listen to his wife explain to him how she didn't know what came over her that made her do that sin! She's crying, she wants to be believed, she wants to be understood—because she's pouring out her heart! This man is in the right position to understand her because he has been in like-condition, but he cannot understand her nor forgive her! Why? Because he is not seeing from her perspective!

How then can one see from another person's perspective?
By instantly reflecting on a like-condition you too have been in the past, taking your mind through your struggles then, reminding yourself how you couldn't understand what came over you that made you do that act; reflecting how you too didn't know what kept coming over you that made you continually do the things you did!

When you are able to have these reflections, forgiveness flows from you like a mighty running ocean! Mercy becomes easy for you to give! Your relationship is restored, your marriage is preserved, the peace of the Lord reigns in your midst!

What a lesson the Spirit of God taught me. I am blessed! I believe this lesson has blessed you too. Now, let's begin to see things from people's perspectives, and live the way God wants us to in this world. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
